Penn-Trafford area: Car cruise at Bushy Run, teachers hired, more

Bushy Run Classic Car Cruise is July 9

Classic and custom cars, trucks or modified vehicles will compete for trophies at the Bushy Run Classic Car Cruise from noon to 4 pm July 9 at the Bushy Run Battlefield along Route 993 in Penn Township.

There is no charge for drivers to enter their vehicles in the car cruise. Concessions will be available.

A special all-day Bushy Run Market will be held under the pines at the battlefield east of Harrison City,

Vendors who have previously participated in the market can set up without charge. All others will require a $25 donation.

The Bushy Run Museum will also be open to visitors. A book sale will be held in the Stone Room from noon until 4 pm

Book donations for the sale can be dropped off at the museum during regular hours, Wednesdays through Saturdays, from 9 am to 4 pm and from 11 am to 4 pm Sundays. The sale will continue from 11 am to 4 pm July 10.

The nonprofit Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society sponsors the events. For more information, contact the society at 724-527-5584.

Penn-Trafford hires several teachers

The Penn-Trafford school board hired five teachers for the 2022-2023 school year.

Gianna Castaldo will be a third-grade teacher at Harrison Park Elementary. She has worked for the district as a student learning assistant at Sunrise Elementary for one year.

Randy Cochenour will join the Penn Middle staff as a math teacher. He has worked in the district for two years at both Penn Middle School and the high school where he was a graduate fellow, student learning assistant and long-term substitute teacher.

Jessica Hartner will be a special education teacher at Level Green Elementary. She spent two years at Penn-Trafford as both a graduate fellow and student learning assistant. Jessica attended Saint Vincent College, where she earned a bachelors’s degree in early childhood education and a master’s degree in special education.

Julie Kessler will be a fourth-grade teacher at McCullough Elementary. She worked at Penn-Trafford for two years as a student learning assistant. She previously taught first-grade at Moon Area for five years and then one year at The ARK Preschool.

Erica Mull will join the Level Green Elementary team as a reading specialist. She worked at Penn-Trafford for three years as a student learning assistant.
